I work in a business where people are often rude to me and my colleagues – they think we’re an unnecessary cog in the wheel, and I get treated as such, not often – but enough. When I get to come home, blog about the beautiful and obscure, I not only feel better about myself but everything else too. Today was one of those days and so, to add some ying to my yang, I wanted to share the beautiful work of Aurora Robson.
Doesn’t that make it all better? This is made out of PET plastics, rivets, tinted polycrylic (not sure what that is) and mica powder. It’s called “Liquid Asset,” which seems fairly suiting.
These pieces are so unbelievable – I just can’t even see the bottle shapes / parts in this work, entitled both “Belch” and “Tarball” it seems.
It seems like a lot of her works are monochromatic, which I’m very into. The tint must be added in layers to increase its opacity on certain parts of the bottle.
This looks like a soft plant or fluff of wool but as it’s plastic I imagine it’s quite prickly. I like that on this one you can very distinctly see the riveting. It’s called “Soft Center” – which is funny since my first thought was urchin.
Not surprisingly, Aurora, a Canadian, grew up on Maui – heightening her love of nature and environmental issues, which in part lead to why she uses recyclables as her dominant material.
If that’s not representative of a Venus Comb Murex, I don’t know what is.
